About Kripalu
Yoga
Kripalu Yoga is a unique discipline that facilitates
opening to the wisdom of your own body, re-discovering who you are and re-learning
to be at ease within yourself, both on the mat and in your daily life. Rooted
in the ancient discipline, Kripalu Yoga focuses on developing prana, sometimes
thought of as intelligent life force.
The classes are designed to teach the techniques of Kripalu
Yoga to anyone, regardless of age, ability or physical condition. Dani’s
style is eclectic in nature. Each class begins with a centering meditation,
breath work [pranayama] and appropriate warm ups [sometimes mixed with a
good deal of laughter]. The warm-ups draw on supportive mind/body techniques
such as Feldenkrais, Alexander, Bioenergetics and Ideokinesis to make movement
freer and more satisfying to do.
This foundation prepares the body for practicing the
postures [asanas] safely and efficiently. The asanas are chosen based on
the particular needs of the class. They open channels of energy and build
strength, flexibility, groundedness, deeper breathing, a sense of personal
power and a connection to spirit. Stiff bodies enjoy the practice as much
as more flexible ones. Learning to “listen” to one’s own body, accepting
and honoring your body’s needs in each moment as you are guided to move at
your own pace, keeps the practice safe, satisfying and deeply nourishing
from the inside out. The final relaxation [shavasana] is guided with creative
healing imagery and is followed by a heart-centered meditation.
Why do yoga?
Yoga will help you look better, feel
better and be more relaxed. Your posture will improve, your joints will feel
looser and your spine freer.
Your energy will increase and you’re likely to sleep better as you let go
of unconsciously held physical tensions and stress.
You will stretch and strengthen your muscles and bones, stimulate and help
bring into balance your digestive, respiratory, circulatory, hormonal and
immune systems.
Practicing yoga regularly has been found to be helpful for many physical/medical
problems or disorders such as: allergies, anxiety, arthritis, back pain,
carpal tunnel syndrome, depression, diabetes, headaches, high blood pressure,
insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome, lethargy, menopause, menstrual problems
and recovery from injury, to name a few.
